Sugar and Fibromalgya

Fibromyalgia is a condition where a person experiences a chronic pain in the muscles and connective tissues. This pain is often accompanied by other symptoms, including insomnia, cognitive dysfunction, fatigue, and stiffness in the joints. Because there is not a complete medical understanding of fibromyalgia, the treatment techniques largely vary depending on the patient. In addition to antidepressants and psychological therapy to help deal with the pain, some patients have found that sugar can also act as a possible remedy.

While sugar does indeed trigger a release of serotonin, medical experts advise that a patient use other types of foods to achieve the same purpose. Starchy foods that are rich in carbohydrates will give the same response and are much healthier for the body. Instead of eating chocolate or candy, most patients will find a healthier solution in eating these carbohydrates, such as many types of breakfast cereals, in limited portions to increase their serotonin levels.
